standing in the gaP
The closer one gets to the frontline of a conflict, the number of patients increases while the gap between the point of injury and definitive medical care expands. One of Stronghold’s key missions is to fill the gap between the point of injury and getting patients to definitive medical care.
We do this in 3 ways:
ONE:
Direct Medical Care
We send trained and qualified medical personnel to conflict zones to provide direct medical care as close to the point of injury as possible. This often means Stronghold’s medical personnel find themselves on the frontlines of armed conflicts to treat patients caught in the crossfire.
Two:
casualty Evacuations
Traumatic injuries tend to degrade and become more severe over time. The sooner you can get a patient to definitive medical care (e.g. a real doctor in a proper medical facility), the higher the patient’s chance of survival. To help save lives, Stronghold’s personnel assist with evacuating casualties to definitive care.
three:
training and mentorship
In keeping with our policy of “Charity With Dignity,” Stronghold provides medical training and mentorship in the conflict zones where we work. This enables communities to be more independent and capable of reacting much faster to emergencies.
Training is comprised of medical courses ranging anywhere from basic 4-hour classes on how to stop bleeding to multi-day official TCCC certification programs.
Mentorship is accomplished by selecting volunteer students who show particular aptitude and then working directly with them in the field until they have the experience to treat and evacuate patients on their own.
