From Training to Treatment: Blood Transfusions in the Field

In February, Stronghold teams focused on strengthening one of the most critical life-saving skills in frontline medicine: blood transfusion.

Field operators trained medics in vascular access, IV placement, donor screening, blood typing, and cross-matching. These are essential skills in conflict-affected areas where immediate hospital access is not always available.

From Practice to Patient Care
Training is only effective if it prepares teams for real emergencies.

During this reporting period, Stronghold medics applied their training when a patient with chronic anemia required a whole blood transfusion. Using screened and typed donors, the team performed the transfusion in a frontline clinical setting.

The ability to perform this procedure safely and efficiently reflects ongoing preparation and disciplined training under difficult conditions.

Building Skill and Confidence
Stronghold’s field operators emphasize continual practice. Even experienced medics revisit foundational skills to maintain confidence and precision.
Standing With Communities in Burma
